Arnica Salve: A Natural Remedy for Achy Muscles

Arnica, a plant known for its potent anti-inflammatory properties, is often used in herbal medicine to soothe muscle aches, reduce swelling, and heal bruises. Here's a simple recipe for an Arnica Salve.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of dried arnica flowers

  • 1 cup of carrier oil (such as olive oil or coconut oil

  • 1/4 cup of beeswax pellets

  • A few drops of essential oil (such as lavender or peppermint, optional)

Steps

  1. Place the dried arnica flowers and carrier oil in a double boiler and gently heat for about 1-2 hours. This allows the healing properties of the arnica to infuse into the oil.

  2. Strain the oil through a cheesecloth, discarding the arnica flowers.

  3. Return the infused oil to the double boiler and add the beeswax pellets. Heat until the beeswax is completely melted.

  4. If using, add a few drops of essential oil for added therapeutic benefits and aroma.

  5. Pour the mixture into small tins or jars and let it cool completely. The salve will solidify as it cools.

  6. To use, apply a small amount to the achy muscles as needed.

*Note: Arnica is intended for external use only. Do not apply to broken skin or open wounds. Always do a patch test before applying a new product to your skin, especially if you have sensitive skin or allergies. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new herbal remedies, especially if you have any health conditions or are taking other medications.
