Basic Herbal Salve

Herbal salves are a wonderful way to harness the healing properties of herbs. They can be used for various purposes, such as soothing dry skin, healing minor cuts and scrapes, or relieving muscle aches. Here's a simple recipe for a basic herbal salve.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of dried herbs (such as calendula, lavender, or chamomile)

  • 1 cup of carrier oil (such as olive oil or coconut oil)

  • 1/4 cup of beeswax pellets

  • A few drops of essential oil (optional)

Steps

  1. Place the dried herbs and carrier oil in a double boiler and gently heat for 1-2 hours. This allows the herbs' healing properties to infuse into the oil.

  2. Strain the oil through a cheesecloth, discarding the herbs.

  3. Return the infused oil to the double boiler and add the beeswax pellets. Heat until the beeswax is completely melted.

  4. If using, add a few drops of essential oil for added therapeutic benefits and aroma.

  5. Pour the mixture into small tins or jars and let it cool completely. The salve will solidify as it cools.

  6. To use, apply a small amount to the affected area as needed.

*Note: Always do a patch test before applying a new product to your skin, especially if you have sensitive skin or allergies. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new herbal remedies, especially if you have any health conditions or are taking other medications.
